November, the Most Beautiful Time of Year in Nicaragua

Whenever asked what is the best time to visit Nicaragua. My answer is always November. Wether it's for a yoga retreat, vacation, or if you want to do one of our surf packages - November is the most beautiful time of year in Nicaragua. Let’s break down why.

Nicaragua’s Wildlife in November

In November, Nicaragua’s rainy season (or green season) has just ended. This means that the jungle is in full bloom, the waterfalls are flowing, and all the animals are fat and happy. You get to enjoy the full dose of wildlife while not getting disrupted by the rains anymore.

November is also prime time for turtles, with sea turtles arriving and babies going out to sea almost daily. At Playa Escameca, more than a 1000 babies were released this month! Thanks to Tim and Vital Action, that in put in all that hard and important work to protect the wildlife in Nicaragua.

Surf in November in Nicaragua

The surf is another big plus in the month of November. Whether you are a beginner surfer taking surf lessons in a surf camp or someone looking to get barreled, November has got you covered.

It’s the tail end of surf season so swells are a little smaller, which is just the right size for the breach breaks around here in southern Nicaragua. But it still pumps on regularly with Playa Yankee going off on multiple occasions, catering to the more advanced surfers in the area.

Yoga retreats in Nicaragua in November

Yoga retreats are great this time of year in Nicaragua because nature is really doing its thing.

We, at Costa Dulce Surf and Yoga Retreat, have had the pleasure of hosting several yoga retreats int the past Novembers: For example, we had Aumukua yoga join our beautiful retret center, led by Ruth Singbeil. It’s always a pleasure hosting people from home and we got to do this twice this month. Next up we had Natural Harmony from Colorado. This was our second time hosting this group, led by Michelle who has decided to make Nicaragua her new home! Felicidades! More people from BC showed up as well during Novembers, with Risto Duggan hosting his surf and yoga retreat in partnership with Saathi Retreats .

My Honest Take on Costa Dulce: Surfing and Yoga in Nicaragua’s Rainy Season

Before arriving at Costa Dulce, I had a clear picture in my head: days filled with yoga and surfing, steps away from the ocean. I was excited but also a bit cautious — how much would it rain during the rainy season? Would it get in the way of activities and surfing? What kind of people would be there? Spoiler alert: The rain was not a problem — and my experience was everything I expected and more.
